This is yet another example of how a broader China has been playing the long game. Sanctions are typically used as a very effective a weapon against others, but in China's it is a temporary inconvenience that has lead to them making a huge domestic design and manufacturing gains.

Yes, they are still behind but the gap is closing and in 5 years they probably will not need any computer tech from outside their country. That is a huge milestone.

It's absolutely incredible to me that anybody thought that you could lock a planned economy of 1.4 billion people out of technological progress.
