Our obsession with efficiency is costing us our humanity (vogue.com.au)

One way we can choose to apply AI is to re-humanize ourselves and focus less on being machine-like. Over time I think we should adopt a philosophy of using machines for machine work, and refocus ourselves on creativity, judgement and connection.

You are phrasing this as an individual choice but people have poured billions of dollars into making software mediate creativity (image and text generation), and connection (social media, dating apps). Whereas the repetitive work of assembling products in a factory is still being done by humans in China and other middle income countries.

Where is the VC profit from letting people “re-humanize”? Nowhere, because people were human before they were profitable.

About McDonald's we might have once said, we should adopt a philosophy of eating fast food rarely, and focus our diets mostly on balanced, healthy, real food.

And then ultra-processed food became our diets. It's not hard to predict whether we at the society level will use the new shortcut machine sparingly or indiscriminately.

Oh come on, that's been true since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Sounds like the author has never worked for a living.
