I can't imagine the safety risks to this approach compared to classic materials like concrete.

Only in the most "condo to cube and back" frame of reference. Yeah it can chemical burn you, a little but it takes some serious exposure. Of all the chemicals on a construction site that make internet comment sections act like chicken little concrete is probably one of the most mild.
