'We Are Not Programmed to Die,' Says Nobel Laureate Venki Ramakrishnan (wired.com)

At various points various researchers/entrepreneurs/influencers will say this, based on what "eternal life"/"life extension" solution/research/product they're selling. Then they somehow still die in a normal distribution age, as if programmed. I'd rather they'd lead with the results, not the sales pitch.

I think his point is that death is the default, and that we’ve never been programmed for indefinite life. The only thing he’s selling is a book.

I think he is saying that we, like all life, are designed to reproduce effectively and then become unnecessary.
